THE HORROR STORIES OF ROAMING CHARGES
Taking a mobile phone to another country when travelling is something that most people do regardless of whether they are on business or traveling for pleasure. People want to be able to remain in contact with the important people in their lives. This is completely natural. What isn’t natural is the high cost of roaming charges.
Sometimes, people are unaware at just how expensive these roaming charges can be and they don’t find out until they get their next phone bill. By then, it’s already too late.
Look at a few of the horror stories about roaming charges that I came across recently and you will see just how devastating these charges can be.
The owners of a medium-sized business based in Canada traveled to Beijing, China for a business meeting. The meeting, if everything went according to plan, could net them a huge client. It seemed that luck was on their side because they not only got the client, but also secured a better order than they thought.
A trip where they thought they might come away with thirty grand in sales actually earned them closer to fifty thousand. When they returned home and saw their phone bill, they cut their champagne celebration short. They had thirty-two thousand dollars in roaming charges on their phones.
Another terrible story I heard the other day involves a young man who traveled to Europe with his parents and called his girlfriend back in the United States for a few minutes once a day. When he got home, he found that his phone bill was close to eight thousand dollars. Suffice to say his parents, whose phone plan he was on, were not very pleased.
